So, what makes a product sustainable?

Sustainability means ‘the ability to remain at a constant level or rate’. In terms of environmental sustainability, it means ‘avoidance of the depletion of natural resources to maintain an ecological balance.

Therefore, if a product is made or consumed in a way that it does not cause harm or destruction; that product can be considered as sustainable.

A sustainable product:

• Does not harm the environment during production, distribution, or consumption.
• Does not deplete natural or non-renewable resources.
• Productions are carried out ethically – concerned on health and wellbeing of employees, no forced or child labour, no gender discrepancy, fair practice.

But the global demand for sustainable responsibly sourced and ethically manufactured goods has had a positive impact and businesses have begun to change their behaviour by making an attempt to address social and environmental issues.
